Academic Integrity

Consequences: When a student has cheated, the consequences and procedures for each instance are as follows:

1st Offense – Student-Teacher Meeting
Teacher will meet with the student to discuss the incident confidentially and attempt to determine the student’s understanding of the content and the process used to complete the assignment. Explain what evidence shows that cheating was involved, why it was wrong, and what the student should do differently moving forward.

  • Evidence shall be provided to student, parent, and admin via email to include:
  1. Student interview (et al. Student-Teacher conversation) results (answers to process and follow-up questions)
    OR
  2. Proof of technical dishonesty (Revision History inconsistency, Canvas locked assignment violation, or copied/plagiarized work)
    OR
  3. Teacher identified writing change (Lacks context or connection, does not match student ability compared to previous work). Teacher will provide a past work sample as evidence.

In Cases of:

  • Turnitin AI checker-AI detector results are considered supporting evidence only and will not be used as proof by themselves.
  • Teacher action is documented in STHS Behavior Form. (Level 1 Entry) 
  • The student will earn a zero on the assignment.
  • Student is assigned detention by admin.

2nd Offense – Student-Teacher Meeting & Parent Contact
Teacher will meet with the student to discuss the incident confidentially and attempt to determine the student’s understanding of the content and the process used to complete the assignment. Explain what evidence shows that cheating was involved, why it was wrong, and what the student should do differently moving forward.

  • Evidence shall be provided to student, parent, and admin via email. (see 1st offense) 
  • The teacher contacts the parent/guardian via phone call or in-person meeting to explain the situation and provide the same guidance. Admin shall attend the meeting at the teacher's request. 
  • Teacher action is documented in STHS Behavior Form. (Level 2 Entry) 
  • The student will earn a zero on the assignment.
  • Student is assigned detention/community service. 

3rd Offense – Student-Dean Meeting
Teacher will meet with the student to discuss the incident confidentially and attempt to determine the student’s understanding of the content and the process used to complete the assignment. Explain what evidence shows that cheating was involved, why it was wrong, and what the student should do differently moving forward.

  • Evidence shall be provided to student, parent, and admin via email. (see 1st offense) 
  • Teacher action is documented in STHS Behavior Form. (Level 2 Entry) 
  • The Dean contacts the parent/guardian to explain what occurred and how the student can improve going forward.
  • The student will earn a zero on the assignment.
  • Student is assigned detention/community service. 

4th & Subsequent Offense(s) – Student-VP Meeting
Teacher will meet with the student to discuss the incident confidentially and attempt to determine the student’s understanding of the content and the process used to complete the assignment. Explain what evidence shows that cheating was involved, why it was wrong, and what the student should do differently moving forward.

  • Evidence shall be provided to student, parent, and admin via email. (see 1st offense)  
  • Teacher action is documented in STHS Behavior Form. (Level 2 Entry) 
  • The VP contacts the parent/guardian and holds a conference to discuss the issues and how the student can improve going forward.
  • The student will earn a zero on the assignment.
  • The student receives an OCR or community service.

Electronic devices / Cell Phone Policy

Attendance and Tardies

Students must be in their scheduled class by the time the second (tardy) bell has finished ringing.

  • Teachers take attendance within the first 15 minutes of each period.

  • Students who arrive after the tardy bell has rung will be recorded as tardy by the teacher (in AERIES).

  • The AERIES system will call &/or text parents/guardians each period in the event a student
    is marked tardy or absent.

  • If a student has a staff-authorized tardy, student must present a pass signed by a staff member which includes date and time.

School Attire

School attire should foster a safe and positive educational environment for our students. All students are to attend school and school-related activities dressed in a manner which is clean and appropriate for the health and safety of themselves and of others and supports the educational process.

Allowable Attire

  • Students must wear clothing including both a shirt with pants or skirt, or the equivalent and shoes.
  • Clothing must cover undergarments waistbands and bra straps excluded.
  • All private parts must be covered by fabric that is not see-through.
  • Student's faces and ears must be visible to staff at all times.
  • Headwear must not interfere with the line of sight to any student or staff.
  • Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled school activities including physical education, science labs, wood shop, and other activities where unique hazards exist.
  • Specialized courses and activities may require or a more specialized attire, such as sports uniforms or safety gear.
  • Shirts must be worn to reach the top of students, pants, shorts or skirt.

Non-permissible Attire

  • Attire depicting, advertising or advocating the use of alcohol tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances.
  • Attire depicting pornography, nudity, partial nudity, sexual ads, or expletives.
  • Attire including gang identifiers, that threatens the health or safety of any other student or staff.
  • Attire depicting hate speech targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender. sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation or any other protected groups.
