International Exchange Students

Welcoming international exchange students enriches our schools by bringing diverse perspectives, cultures, and experiences into the classroom. These students help foster global awareness, empathy, and cross-cultural understanding among our staff and students. By hosting exchange students, our district strengthens its commitment to preparing learners for an increasingly connected and diverse world.

Below is an overview of the application process for becoming an international exchange student in LTUSD schools. Board Policy and Administrative Regulation International Exchanges Students 6145.6 guide and govern this process.

Steps:

  • Sponsoring organizations must be vetted and listed on the current (ISEVPO) List, as required by the State of California Department of Justice.
  • Prior to enrollment, a complete information packet or student profile from the foreign exchange agency must be submitted to the South Tahoe High School Registrar’s Office. The packet must include the following:
  • Copy of a valid passport.
  • Immunization record.
  • Evidence of medical insurance providing coverage for the student during their stay in the United States.
  • Proof of host family’s residency (LTUSD school boundaries).
  • Current official transcript with appropriate English translation.
  • Complete Aeries Online Enrollment once the application has been approved.
  • Deadline:
  • Applications are accepted through January 12th and through April 30th for the 2026/27 academic year.

Notes:

  • All potential students need to work through an approved Foreign Exchange student organization. State of California Department of Justice.
  • Placement is based on class availability.
  • Please review Board Regulation 6145.6 for information regarding participation in interscholastic sports and international exchange students receiving diplomas.
  • All international exchange students must have a valid J-1 visa.​
  • Required enrollment is for one full academic year.
  • The host family must reside within the LTUSD District boundaries.
  • Applicant cannot have graduated from their own school system.
