TRiO Educational Talent Search

The purpose of the TRiO Educational Talent Search Program at Lake Tahoe Community College is to prepare and motivate primarily first-generation college students, and/or disadvantaged students at Tahoe Basin schools to successfully complete Middle School and High School and pursue higher education.

TRiO programs bridge the equity gap and propel underserved students forward. We are passionate about guiding students beginning as early as the 6th grade and their families toward academic success throughout their formative years and assist students step-by-step, through pinnacle moments, such as their college applications, scholarships, and applying for financial aid in their senior years.

TRiO services from 6th-12th grade include tutoring, academic and financial/career guidance, mentoring, study tips, workshops to develop skills for success, free trips to explore four-year schools and cultural events, and workshops for parents in English and Spanish to provide information and support. To be admitted into the ETS program, students must be committed to reaching the following goals:

    • Complete the current academic year and continue in school for the next academic year at the next grade level
    • Complete a rigorous secondary school program of study.
    • Graduate with a regular high school diploma.
