Ms. Sinkler's View

February 26, 2018

Dear STHS Community -

In light of the national conversation about school safety and the tragic event in Florida, we understand that students and families may be experiencing anxiety about school safety. As noted in Dr. Tarwater's email following the Florida shooting, STHS is making adjustments to our procedures for fire drills, securing perimeter doors and providing additional supervision. We also want to stress the importance of preventative measures that promote school safety and provide families with resources for talking with your teenagers about indirect or direct traumatic events.

Talking with teens:
Teenagers today face a wide range of challenges and each handles anxiety or stress in unique ways.  See link to Center for Parenting Education  for helpful ideas for talking with children about traumatic events. The teen/adolescent section is located at the end.

Sincerely,
